Wayne Brady Booed For Bad Trig Palin Joke

Submitted by on August 13, 2012 – 11:00 am Comments

Tonight I joined the masses while they watched the Roast of now presidential candidate Roseanne Barr and while most of the show had me cracking up I thought the “What the Hell” worthy moments had been edited out. (See Here) Now I am sure this only angers me because I am a mom of a child with special needs, but Wayne Brady’s joke to Jeff Ross first made me angry and then sad , but mostly just irritated that he could really be THAT IGNORANT and INSENSITIVE on television.

The “Joke” went as follows: “Now the thing is Jeff, these are all jokes, and I really like you. I really, really like you. But a lot of people hate you, especially Sarah Palin because you remind her of what Trig is going to look like when he’s 40.”

For those that do not know Sarah Palin’s 4 year old son Trig has Downs Syndrome and before I am told I am being too bias, it does not irritate me that it was Sarah Palin’s son, he was making a joke about. Wrong is wrong and that is the point. It upsets me that he did not stop to think that he was not just putting down Palin’s son but thousands of other children and adults with Downs and that is not cool.

Brady then got mad when he was BOOED for his joke stating “Oh, now you boo me? F*ck y’all. I don’t want to hear that. These people say all of this sh*t about me, and you boo me because of Trig?” Yes Brady they booed you because you used someone who has never done anything to you in his life as the butt of a joke in a demeaning way and yes that IS wrong. So YES you deserved to be booed.

You are a big boy and most of the jokes the other roasters (which included Seth Green, Gilbert Godfried, Roseanne of course and Jeff Ross to name a few) were making fun about you were based on things you have done. If you cannot take jokes made about YOU do not go on a show where they are going to, oh I don’t know, MAKE JOKES about you.

It is not cool to demean special needs kids and it makes me sad that this kind of ignorance makes people laugh. I have personally learned so much from my daughter in the last 3 years that I have had the privilege of being her mom that jokes like that just make me sick and after seeing everything she goes through on a daily basis it is not a joke it is her life.

Though she does not have Downs I know moms who have children that do and these kids are the sweetest, loving, and most unbiased kids and adults you will ever meet and they do not deserve to be the butt of some ones cruel joke. In short, pick on someone on stage with someone your joke was not funny and if you cannot take the heat stay off the stage.
