“United Bates of America” AND “19 Kids And Counting”
Every day I click on the TV in my house and when it is not on a constant Disney Jr. loop (because I have a 3 and 5 year old who are now going back to school) I have to wonder why I am constantly just DRAWN to TLC. Maybe it has to do with TLC standing for The Learning Channel, or maybe like with most guilty pleasures, you just get sucked into the time consuming “What the Hell” worthy shows. Whatever the reason it certainly makes things interesting for those of you who actually like to read my thoughts.
Today was one of those days, where I got on the computer and usually (even if it is just for background noise ) there is some kind of media be it music or the television going on around me and during the day its usually very consistent, TLC, E!, Discovery Heath, or CMT for music videos (and no I am not ashamed I listen to country because I listen to EVERYTHING). Well today I was watching TLC and I found out that “19 Kids and Counting” is coming back on. Do not get me wrong I really do actually find the lives of the Duggar family fascinating. 19 Kids for me? Never going to happen as my two children already keep me busy, my youngest being special needs. However to each their own, that would be terribly overwhelming for me especially considering their youngest daughter Josie was a micro preemie and they also recently lost another daughter at five months gestation.

Well shortly after that commercial came yet another commercial for “The United Bates Of America” which follows the friends of the Duggars who ALSO have 19 children (and counting). At that point the infamous words came out of my mouth “Really!? What the Hell?” Why TWO shows about families with 19 kids? Also why air them during the same season? I am seriously now considering writing TLC and asking for my very own show since my life would be interesting enough, and my family is funny. We would bring in more genuine laughs then a show like “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” and also be very educational for at least a season. After that point I would likely get annoyed and tell everyone to “GET OUT!” Then my three year old would grab the camera guys by their pant legs and escort them out.
Well “United Bates of America” is set to start on Monday at 9|8 central taking over the time slots for “Cake Boss” and “Four Houses” while they are off season. The show will follow Gil and Kelly Jo Bates and their children 10 girls and 9 boys. It will no doubt be interesting, but it just drives me crazy that I will now be watching more than one family of 21 every week. Please TLC for my readers sake and my own sanity’s sake PLEASE get better options.
