Mo’Nique’s ‘Dog Poop’ Smelling House Up For Sale

Submitted by on November 12, 2012 – 10:34 am Comments

‘Precious’ star Mo’Nique was recently embroiled in a controversy, which was so outrageous it had many yelling ‘what the hell’. Basically, her landlords had sued her and her husband Sidney Hicks last year, claiming they walked out on their lease agreement still owing $370,000 in unpaid rent. Mo fired back with her own suit, claiming they bailed on the contract for a slew of reasons; including that the house smelled like dog crap, wet dog, and urine.

Some would argue that the reasons given by her were pretty frivolous and surely her landlords too must have yelled ‘what the hell’ on hearing the allegations. Later, both the parties came to some sort of an agreement and the matter was eventually resolved. It has recently been reported the house in question that allegedly reeks of dog poop, has been put up for sale.  The house boasts 8 bedrooms, 10.5 bathrooms, and sits on 10 acres of land. Therefore ‘what the hell’ does it matter if the house smells of dog poop? The house has been put in the market, with an asking price of $3.9 million, which is quite a steal for such a luxurious accommodation, some would say.

The question is, whether the whole dog poop episode affected the market price of the house adversely. Also, the power of suggestion is such that, prospective buyers who know about the whole poop episode might feel the house really smells, even if there is actually no smell. The fact is, someone who will buy a house for $3.9 million, will surely have the resources to get rid of any kind of smell there might be in the house. But, another way of looking at it is, why would anyone spend nearly $4 million for a house than smells of dog urine and poop in the first place.

The interesting part is, Mo’Nique after settling the lawsuit with the landlords had continued to live in the house, which in other words means the smells had stopped affecting her. She allegedly had to shell out some money in order to settle the whole issue. Seems like, she might have gotten some discount on the $370,000 unpaid rent which the landlords claimed she owed. On hindsight, the whole accusation of the house being smelly seems like a ploy to save some money
