Submitted by on August 12, 2012 – 9:42 am Comments

This week in Box Office News, the Dark Knight Rises has managed to hold the top spot in the box office. Some have rumored that Bourne Legacy is in the running to knock Batman out of his spot, but nothing is confirmed as of yet. The Box Office is flush with the release of Total Recal, the remake from the original, which has held its own to get close to Dark Knight Rises.

In what seemed to be a close ranking, here are the Top 5 in this week’s Box Office:

1. Dark Knight Rises – Eight years after Batman disapearing, the streets of Gotham City have not been the same. Being framed for D.A. Harvey Dent’s death will do that. The Anti-Crime Dent Act seemed to be doing its job without the masked crusader. However, a cunning cat burglar seeks to stop that and a new villian, Bane, emerges to destroy everything that Batman and Commissioner Gordon fought to uphold. However, this gets Batman to emerge once again to try to stop this terrorist before he destroys the city that has turned its back on him.

2. Total Recall – Douglas Quaid (Colin Ferrell) has got it all. A beautiful wife, a nice job and a sense of adventure. Life as a super-spy is what is on his mind when he goes into Rekall, a company that gives you real memories from your dreams. However, the procedure doesn’t go according to plan and Quaid is hunted down. He finds himself running from the police. He teams up with a rebel with a cause and together they fight to restore Quaid’s identity before it is too late.

3. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days -Greg Heffley is back for another installment of “Diary of a Wimpy Kid as he decides to pretend to be an employee of a country club. However, this gets him wrapped up in Dog Days, a season event that gets him in trouble with a public pool and a camping trip where everything happens to go wrong at the wrong time.

4. Ice Age: Continental Drift – Manny, Diego, and Sid are back again for ride on the Continental Drift. When they get separated from the herd, they are forced to make an iceberg into a shop as they go on their most adventurous adventure yet. As they encounter sea creatures and a new world ahead of them, they have to battle ruthless pirates as well. Scrat is back for another adventure of his own as he ventures to places he has never been before.

5. The Watch – When four guys come together for a night of fun, they accidentally find out that their town is overrun by aliens who are posing as humans in their little town. They ban together to take out the imposters and save their neighborhood. As they venture forward, they realize that they can be saving the world as well.

There you are! The TOP 5 of the week! Which ones have you gone out to support? Despite what the critics have said about Dark Knight Rises, it seems to still hold the #1 spot for the 3rd week in a row. That is usually what happens with critics these days. Hopefully there will be critics someday that have a sense of humor and will be able to have a unbiased type of review. Enjoy the movies!
