Armstrong Oprah WinfreyLance Armstrong shall soon be sitting down for an interview with Oprah Winfrey. In the past few months, the fallen hero has been in the sports pages world over for his alleged drug use during his sports career.  He has consequently been stripped off his various titles that he won during his sporting career as a world class cyclist. Armstrong through all of this has chosen to keep mum and hasn’t spoken up even to defend his pride and dignity. Therefore all eyes will be peeled on this interview that he is slated to sit down for with Oprah.

Many are assuming that during the interview, he might actually come clean about the alleged drug use, which has lead to so much furor world over and has brought him so much humiliation. In fact this will be his first interview since he was humiliatingly stripped of his titles and dropped from millions of dollars in endorsement deals after the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency released an extensive report accusing the renowned cyclist of doping throughout his career. It would also be interesting to see how Oprah handles the interview, although we all know she is a pro and has interviewed all sorts of celebrities and public figures.

But, the challenge here would be for her to ask some piercing questions, answering some of which might get Armstrong into legal Lance Armstrong Oprah Winfreytroubles. For Armstrong it would be a litmus test and he would have to really choose his words carefully, as the whole world would be weighing each word of his very carefully. Also, it wouldn’t be surprising if there are a few tears of guilt and repentance shed for television, as crying on Oprah could mean that Armstrong would gain the nation’s sympathy, even if he is at fault.

As far as Armstrong’s culpability is concerned, there is hardly any doubt about it. In fact, anyone who is innocent would have by now stood up for himself quite vehemently if he were meted the humiliation that Armstrong has been meted in the past few months. New York Times has also reported that Armstrong is contemplating confessing to doping and there can’t be a better platform to do it than on Oprah. Oprah too must have jumped at the opportunity, as the interview would bring her ratings gold and for Armstrong it would bring in the much needed sympathy. The special 90-minute episode will air on Thursday, January 17 on Winfrey’s cable network OWN. The interview will also be streamed live on Oprah.com.
