Some good news for the fans of the TV series ‘Wilfred’, the show has been renewed for a third season by FX. The season will in all comprise of 13 episodes. FX announced that, writers Reed Agnew and Eli Jorne will now serve as executive producers and showrunners on the comedy. David Zuckerman, showrunner and executive producer of the first two seasons, will stay on the series as an executive producer. “As John [Landgraf] said at the summer TCA, it was only a matter of time before we picked up the show, we just had to work some things out,” Nick Grad, executive vice president of original programming at FX, was quoted as saying.

“David Zuckerman has done an amazing job adapting and reconceiving Wilfred for FX. It was his decision to step down from the showrunner’s post, but we’re very happy he is going to stay involved with the show. Both we and David have great faith in the ability of Reed and Eli to seamlessly step up and take over the reins. I have no doubt they’ll do a great job” he added. For the uninitiated, Wilfred is an American sitcom television series which debuted on June 23, 2011, and is based on the Australian SBS One series of the same name.

It stars Elijah Wood and series co-creator Jason Gann, reprising his role of the eponymous dog Wilfred. The series was adapted for the American television channel FX by Family Guy veteran David Zuckerman. The show follows a young man named Ryan (Elijah Wood) and his neighbor’s dog Wilfred (Jason Gann).

In the opening episode, Ryan concocts a drug cocktail in order to commit suicide. After this failed attempt, Ryan’s neighbor, Jenna (Fiona Gubelmann), knocks on his door to ask him to look after her dog for the day. Ryan is taken aback as he sees Wilfred as a tall, verbose Australian man wearing a grey dog suit, while everyone else views Wilfred as just a regular dog. Unlike the Australian version which concentrated equally on Wilfred, his owner, and her boyfriend, the American version is presented as a buddy comedy between Wilfred and Ryan.
