The Price Is Right Male Model Search

Price is Right host Drew CareyWomen aren’t the only ones who can showcase a showcase! “The Price is Right” is now on the search for its first male model. For decades, beautiful women have been waving their arms in front of the game show’s prizes, and attempting to make these prizes seem more valuable than they truly are. Many are excited about the CBS game show’s step towards gender equality. The show’s audience will be voting for their favorite male model from now until October 3rd. The man who wins the contest will begin modeling on the show on October 15th.

The contest will be shown in a five part web series next month that will be streamed on the show’s website and on YouTube. We’ll watch these men try their hardest to pose just right next to bedroom sets and brand new cars. We’ll hopefully also get to see them joke back and forth with Drew Carey… hopefully these men will have brains to match their beauty.

The hit game show has had many lawsuits over the years regarding its models. Numerous women have filed harassment suits against the show and former host Bob Barker. There have also been suits for racial discrimination and for wrongful termination.

Since Drew Carey took over the show in 2007, things seem to be better for the models. They are now allowed to use their real names instead of nick names. They even now have microphones so that they can interact with the audience and are much more a part of the show instead of more of a backdrop.

The show has not been without its issues, however. In 2010 a model sewed stating that a producer had been harassing her, and the stress of the situation directly led to her miscarriage. That same year, another model, Shane Stirling, filed a lawsuit stating harassment and discrimination.

Any men who want to join the show can come to an open casting call in Los Angeles on August 30th. The male models can show off their talents and will be interviewed by the show’s current models and producers. Finalists will be revealed on the show on September 28th and voting will be open until October 3rd.Price is Right Male model Search

The weirdest part of all this to me is that the gig is only for one week. That’s right. All this hoopla is for only one week. This isn’t going to solve the gender equality issue, by any means, but at least it is a general step in the right direction. I’m quite surprised the “The Price is Right” has not thought of this before. After all, I’m sure the majority of its viewers are women, and women appreciate eye candy just as much as men. “Magic Mike” proved just that. Hopefully this is just a trial run and soon male models will become as much a staple on the show as their female counterparts.
