the cast of officeOne of the all time favorite shows will soon be coming to an end. Greg Daniels, the executive producer of NBC’s “The Office” announced on Tuesday in a conference call that the show’s final episode will air in May, making this, the ninth season of the show, its last. Daniels is returning as the show’s producer, as he was the showrunner for the first five seasons of the show. Daniels is said to be the 15th veteran member who is returning for this final season. It is rumored that he is even going to try and talk Ken Kwapis, the pilot’s director, to direct the final episode.

Daniels stated, “This year feels like the last chance to… make an artistic ending for the show.” Truly bad news. “The Office” is based on the British comedy of the same name and stars Ricky Gervais. The American version debuted in 2005 with the always funny Steve Carell at the helm of Dunder Mifflin Scranton, Pennsylvania as the office manager. 2010 was Carell’s final season on the show. Ed Helms, Mindy Kaling, BJ Novak, Jenna Fischer, John Krasinski, and Rainn Wilson all star as employees in the pseudo documentary. Many of these have become house hold names since the beginning of the show. Daniels admitted that it would have very difficult to keep some of these stars past this ninth season. If others had chosen to leave, as Carell did, it would have been hard to wrap up their stories.

According to Daniels, this year will wrap up everyone’s questions regarding the show. They even said that we will find out who exactly is behind the documentary. Daniels said fans will be excited for what is planned for this final season. Daniel’s biggest concern is trying to squeeze in all the wonderful ideas they have.

Daniel says that the show’s lovebirds, Jim and Pam, are the “heart and soul” of the series and he has always had an idea of exactly how he woulddwight talking to andy like for their story to end. We can expect to see their story come to fruition this year.

This year, even storylines such as the Scranton Strangler will be brought up and addressed this season. As previously mentioned, the long time fans of the show (myself included) will be able to get a glimpse of who is actually filming the documentary. But Daniels said that they’re not going to be taking the easy way out. Since they have an end in sight, they are going to “blow up things and take some chances.”

Some have raised the question of whether or not Michael Scott will be returning for the last season. Daniels doesn’t believe he will be returning as Carell was so worried about ruining his previous exit from the series, though they would love for him to return to the set. “The Office” will premiere its final season on September 20th, at 9 PM on NBC. For anyone who has previously enjoyed the show, this season will surely prove to be a must see.
