Randy Jackson Will No Longer Be Judging American Idol

Submitted by on August 31, 2012 – 8:17 am Comments

Randy JacksonIt’s official. Randy Jackson will be leaving the judge’s table at “American Idol” to take a different role on the show. He will now be a “mentor.” Some of those connected with the show are voicing their concerns that Jackson may not be the best person for the mentoring job. According to those folks, he was only kept on the show because some feel that he is the glue that holds it all together.

Some sources are saying that Nicki Minaj will be Jackson’s replacement and that her deal is 99% done. But keep in mind it is still not a done deal and we all know that anything can happen. Mariah Carey has made it well known to the world that Minaj is not her favorite person and that she doesn’t want to be sharing that judge’s table with Minaj. But producers feel the conflict and tension will be a great ratings boost for the show.

Mariah feels that Nicki is not established enough to qualify as a judge on the hit show. She is afraid that Nicki will simply be a distraction and turn the panel into some sort of freak show. Mariah would rather have a panel of smart, inspirational judges, who know what they are talking about, who has been in the business for years.

“American Idol” will also be on the lookout for a fourth judge. Producers have hinted that they are trying to find a country music star for the third seat. And I believe they are looking for a male judge for the third and fourth seats also. Seat 4 is still completely up in the air though.

“American Idol” was reportedly trying to snag the likes of Diddy or Kanye West, but those fellows weren’t having any of it. According to rumors, Mariah Carey would love to have her close friend Lenny Kravitz join her on the judge’s panel.  She feels like he would be a great choice because he is so talented and knows the ins and outs of the music industry. Lenny Kravitz has also recently set aside his music to take on an acting role as Cinna in “The Hunger Games” so perhaps he would be up for a little reality TV gig.

As far as the search for a country star judge goes, “American Idol” is still hunting. They reportedly asked Reba McEntire if she would be interested, but she graciously said no. They asked Toby Keith, but he bowed out as well. It seemed for a while that “Idol” producers were in the works to hire Brad Paisley, but now it seems as if they are trying to snag Keith Urban. Some have said, however, that the 44 year old Aussie doesn’t really have the spice needed to be an “Idol” judge. It will be interesting to see over the course of the next few weeks who they will be able to coerce into the gigs. And you better believe we’ll be watching.
