Peter Jackson Would Love To Direct An Episode Of Doctor Who

Submitted by on September 20, 2012 – 1:00 pm Comments

It wouldn’t comes as a surprise to anyone, if the same people who like the LOTR movies, are also fans of the popular sci-fi series Doctor Who. Basically, the group comprising of such people would be extremely huge, and it’s this very huge group of people who Peter Jackson must have surely gotten excited when he revealed “I’m a huge Doctor Who fan, and I think Matt [Smith]’s fantastic”. When it was further proposed to him by a local paper that, he should consider directing an episode of the show if he is such a huge fan, he responded by saying “Just name a time and place, and I’ll be there!”

Well, with his extremely busy schedule and The Hobbit soon slated for release, his comment can only be attributed to his whimsy. But, it’s interesting to imagine how awesome it could be if Jackson actually directed an episode of the show. Obviously, there is no denying the fact that he wouldn’t have the same kind of budget at his disposal, as he does when making a movie, but with his level of skill he can surely work his magic, with whatever budget the BBC provides him.

Another interesting possibility that deserves a thought is Peter Jackson, directing a Doctor Who movie. Although, there are no plans to make a Doctor Who movie at the moment, and there seem to be no plans on the horizon either. Also, if ever a movie were to be envisioned, Stephen Moffat has clarified that the movie shall not be a reboot. Actually, with Peter Jackson at the helm, all such a movie would need is, a great script and a decent budget.

The concept is already there and the story can possibly be cooked up by combining a few interesting episodes of the show. In retrospect, even if its 4 or 5 years down the line, Jackson and the makers of Doctor Who, should seriously consider joining hands in order to make this ultimate dream of every fan, a reality. If a few of you are skeptical, as to whether Jackson is the apt candidate to helm such a project; take some time out and watch his King Kong, besides watching his LOTR triology.
