‘NCIS’ Renewed For 11th Season By CBS
Shows will come and show will go, but NCIS it seems is here to stay. Turns out, CBS recently renewed the show for the 11th season. The show began way back in 2003 and after nearly a decade it’s still going strong. CBS president Leslie Moonves made the renewal official and was all praises for the show and it star Mark Harmon. “In a world gone niche, NCIS keeps getting bigger, and Mark Harmon continues to define the role of leading man on the #1 show on television,” Moonves said in a statement. “NCIS is the type of franchise every company wants in today’s global content ecosystem – high-quality storytelling that generates passionate viewers and drives revenue on every conceivable platform” he further added.
Yup, the simple fact is that the show still manages to garner really great ratings even after a decade on the air and hence rakes in the moolah for the network, and frankly nothing else matters. For those unaware, NCIS is a series revolving around a fictional team of special agents from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, which conducts criminal investigations involving the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. The show is a spinoff from the TV series JAG, which also used to air on CBS. The success of NCIS has seen a spinoff NCIS: Los Angeles, starring Chris O’Donnell and LL Cool J.

The success of the show has also seen, video games based on the show being released on various gaming platforms. You know that a TV show is really successful when there are video games made based on its theme, an honor which is usually reserved for films. So basically, CBS is not only earning from the airing of the show, but also is making a tidy sum by merchandising it.
The show is presently in its 10th season and up until now has seen a viewership of 21.8 million in the present season, which is the highest viewership in all its seasons. In fact, NCIS is the most watched TV series that airs during both halves of the television season in the United States, followed by CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Both shows are from CBS. Also, Mark Harmon is a big reason for the show’s success besides its concept and Michael Weatherly had once wittily stated this when rumors began flying around that Mark Harmon was leaving NCIS: “He’s the spine of the show. Without him it’s a show about jellyfish. We need our spine.”
