NBC Pitting The Voice Against X Factor

Submitted by on September 6, 2012 – 10:00 am Comments

The VoiceNBC and “The Voice” are making a big move that directly pits them against FOX and “The X Factor.” The network just did a last minute change up and rearranged it’s program scheduling next week so that “The Voice” will be going head to head against it’s main competition, “X Factor.”

NBC has also said that it will now be showing a third episode in next week’s line up that is scheduled for Wednesday night, which just so happens to be at the exact same time that FOX’s “X Factor” is set to premiere. The first two episodes of “The Voice” will be airing on Mondays and Tuesday nights.

“America’s Got Talent” had been previously scheduled by NBC for that Wednesday prime time spot, but the network must feel that “The Voice” will be more popular, so it has made the swap.

Tension has been high between the two shows and “X Factor” creator and judge, Simon Cowell recently advised two “X Factor” rejects that they should audition for “The Voice.” Cowell is now furious over the NBC change up and stated “This is a cynical, cold-hearted, unprofessional way of doing business.”

According to Cowell, the two networks had a “gentleman’s agreement” that “The Voice” would run on Mondays and Tuesdays, and “X Factor” would run Wednesday and Thursdays. That way fans would be able to watch both shows with no problems. But now, Cowell says, NBC is turning on its own audience.  They have now forced their fans to choose between Christina Aguilera’s show and Britney Spears’ show.

Cowell hinted to the tension between the two pop stars. He said that Britney would not appreciate that Christina is not allowing Britney to have a night of her own. But I’m not so sure that this is really Christina’s doing. I’m sure it’s the network executives who are simply trying to outdo their competition.X Factor

Cowell also feels that the move is very person, considering that when “The Voice” attempted to move to England, it went head to head against his show “Britain’s Got Talent” and failed miserably. “These guys have really got it in for us. It’s nothing short of dirty tricks.” Cowell feels that “The Voice” is actually afraid that more people will want to see the “X Factor.” He said that “The Voice” doesn’t want people to see Britney Spears and Demi Lovato.

Cowell seemed to be standing up for his co-judges. He didn’t think that Spears had yet heard the news about the change up but said that she would be devastated once she heard the news because she had put her heart and soul into the “X Factor.” He said he just can’t bear that the network is playing politics instead of playing to the audience. And it is a bit sad. We’ll see which show ends up on top later this season.
