NBC Exec Hoping There Would Be A Fifth Season Of ‘Community’
The news that Bob Greenblatt of NBC is hoping for a fifth season of the TV show Community, might come as a ray of sunshine for many fans, who had assumed the show would end in its fourth season. ”I’m always hopeful for a show to continue. We co-own it and I’d love nothing more than to see it continue” Greenblatt was quoted as saying. He said this to reporters at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour.
For those unaware, Greenblatt is the Chairman of NBC Entertainment, so when he says a show might just see another season; we have to take him seriously. The show has had its share of problems though and has even been bounced around the network schedule like a ping pong ball. Presently, the show is slated to take over the slot occupied by 30 Rock, which shall soon be ending. The switch is scheduled to happen on Feb 7th 2013 at 8pm, the date and time; fans of ‘Community’ are eagerly waiting for.

One can only hope that all goes well and the premiere of the fourth season of the show happens on schedule and does not get delayed like it did from its original date of October 19th 2012. As far as changes to the ensemble are concerned, Greenblatt revealed that much of the show would remain as is, but with some subtle differences. “I don’t know that I’m the Community expert, but I think you’re going to see relatively the same show that you have seen before,” he said. “There is a little bit more heart built in to it, but we didn’t fundamentally change it” he was quoted as saying. This possibly is a wise decision on the network’s part, as drastic changes would have affected the essence of the show and what it stands for.
The show has a cult following, but has unfortunately not seen great ratings. The network would be hoping that this changes with season four and if it possibly does, there might actually be a season five. Chevy Chase though, has already departed from the show, but will be seen in season four, as he shot for all the episodes of the fourth season before his departure. But, if there is a fifth season in the offing, you wouldn’t see him in it. “Actors come and go on a lot of shows and this is a big ensemble; I don’t think that’s in any way going to be a big negative about the future of the show. He’s in everything but two episodes,” Greenblatt was quoted as saying, while discussing about Chase’s departure. Chevy Chase fans might not share Greenblatt’s opinion though.
