‘Nashville’ Gets A Full Season

Submitted by on November 13, 2012 – 12:00 pm Comments

Those of you, who simply enjoy ‘Nashville’ the new show on ABC, are in for a treat. Turns out, ABC has handed a full-season order to Nashville.  Nashville joins freshman ABC comedy The Neighbors, which also has received a full-season pickup. Also recently getting a full-season pickup was sophomore Scandal, which started off with a 13-episode second-season order. Waiting word are new dramas Last Resort and 666 Park Ave. Both shows are on the fence (ABC doesn’t own either of them but does own Nashville), with Last Resort looking a little more likely to get some sort of a back order.

For the uninitiated, Nashville is an American musical drama television series created by Academy Award winner Callie Khouri and produced by R.J. Cutler, Khouri, Dee Johnson, Steve Buchanan and Connie Britton. The series stars Connie Britton as Rayna Jaymes, a legendary country music superstar, whose stardom begins fading, and Hayden Panettiere as rising teen star Juliette Barnes. The series premiered on ABC on October 10, 2012, had more than 8.93 million viewers. The pilot episode of the show too received many positive reviews from critics, specifically praising Callie Khouri’s writing, casting and the performance of Connie Britton.

The pilot was made available on Hulu, iTunes, and ABC.com before it premiered on television. In June 2012, Nashville was one of five honorees in the Most Exciting New Series category at the Critics’ Choice Television Awards, voted by journalists who had seen the television pilots. Nashville waited two weeks to start because of presidential debates and struggled to find a following at first.

But, with help from DVR viewing, Nashville is No. 1 in its Wednesday 10 PM time period among Adults 18-49 (3.2/9), beating CBS’ veteran CSI (3.1/9) and NBC’s freshman Chicago Fire (2.4/7), as well as adults 18-34. Overall for the season, Nashville ranks among the Top 3 new TV series in Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34. On October 2, 2012, it was announced that Big Machine Records will release all covers and original songs from the series. Some of the original songs will be written by John Paul White of The Civil Wars, Hillary Lindsey, and Elvis Costello.
