Lance Armstrong Oprah dopingAt long last after months of speculation on the part of the media, and months of denial by Armstrong and the humiliation that followed, Lance Armstrong has come clean about the fact that he doped. The moment he agreed to an interview with Oprah, speculation was rife that it was only so he could confess. Also, he really didn’t have any other option left, the way things were going. He during his interview also apologized to all the people working at Livestrong, the charity that he founded.

At the present moment he is no more with Livestong, as he was forced to dissociate himself from it after his public humiliation in the recent months. The details of the interview was revealed by an inside source on the condition of anonymity, as the interview is slated to be aired on Thursday, on Oprah’s network. It has been for nearly a decade that Armstrong has strongly refuted allegations of doping against him and he would have probably continued to do so, had he not been publicly humiliated as he was in the past few months.

After her interview with Armstrong Oprah tweeted “Just wrapped with @lancearmstrong More than 2 1/2 hours. He came Lance Armstrong Oprah confessionREADY!” The tweet obviously did not reveal even a sliver of what actually happened during the interview, but that is expected. Oprah obviously wants her viewers to be on the edge of their seats while they closely follow the interview.  The International Cycling Union, or UCI, issued a statement on Tuesday saying it was aware of the media reports that Armstrong had confessed to Winfrey. The interview is in fact being promoted as one of the biggest for OWN since the network was launched by Oprah in 2011.

USADA chief executive Travis Tygart who has always been critical of Armstrong and has maintained for quite some time now that Armstrong had doped during his cycling days has described Armstrong’s doping as “the most sophisticated, professionalized and successful doping program that sport has ever seen.” As far as the interview is concerned, USADA desisted from commenting on Armstrong’s confession. Probably its waiting for the interview to be telecast, so what Armstrong has actually said, comes out in the open. It would be really interesting to see to what degree Armstrong has confessed in the interview, or if he has simply acknowledged that he had doped and left it at that.
