When you think The Sopranos you think James Gandolphini and vice versa. For James personally, it must be frustrating as he is a really talented actor, and for a change he probably wants to be known for playing some other character. That is probably why this three time Emmy winner has chosen to play the upholder of law, and a character diametrically opposite to the one played by him in The Sopranos. The pilot that he is going to star in is to be telecast on HBO, where he made his name through The Sopranos.

The pilot is Co-written by Oscar winner Steven Zaillian (Schindler’s List) and Richard Price (The Color Of Money) and is loosely based on the BBC series of the same name.  Criminal Justice shall chronicle the journey of a person charged with murder through the New York City justice system. The American version of the show shall reportedly follow an American-born Pakistani cab driver (played by Riz Ahmed) who after a night of partying wakes to find a girl stabbed to death in his bed. Gandolfini shall play Jack Stone, a lawyer who appoints himself the man’s attorney, as he believes him to be innocent.

It would be really interesting to see how James pulls of this role, after playing the leader of the mob for years. It shall also be interesting to see how people respond, to him trying to win someone justice. Gandolfini shall be seen in the movie ‘Killing Them Softly’, starring Brad Pitt. It’s slated for a nationwide release in November, in the US. The movie revolves around Jackie Cogan (played by Brad Pitt) a professional enforcer who investigates a heist that went down during a mob-protected poker game. Gandolfini has a pivotal role in the movie.

Next, he shall be seen in a movie named ‘Not Fade Away’ which is a drama. Gandolfini as it turns out is the executive producer for Criminal Justice, which in other words means he had creative control over the project and could therefore decide to play the good guy for a change. The pilot is set to start filming in New York this fall.
