show renewed third seasonThe TV series Girls on HBO is fast gaining popularity and there is simply no denying that. If there is any evidence that anyone wants of how popular it’s becoming, the show’s recent win at the Golden Globe for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy, should be evidence enough. If that isn’t enough, its star Lena Dunham also won the Golden Globe for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy. Hence it can be safely said that the show has arrived and is here to stay.

HBO has therefore renewed Girls for a third season. This revelation came directly from the horse’s mouth, in other words Lena Dunham herself revealed this to Alec Baldwin on his podcast.  “We’re starting season three at the end of March. I’m so excited” she told Baldwin. “I would love that. I don’t want to like – I don’t have any desire in doing like, you know, a 22 episode – I don’t even understand how someone does the 22 episode marathon. But I do think that doing – I think that a little more would be just a little more storytelling real estate and it would be amazing. But you know, so I shoot four-and-a-half months out of the year, then I’m editing, then I’m doing press, then I’m writing, then I’m back” she further added.

Dunham also hinted that the third season might be slightly longer than 10 episodes and could possibly stretch up to 12 episodes. For those unaware, Girls is a show basically about four girls season 3girls and the things and incidents that take place in their day-to-day lives. The show is a comedy and is pretty matter of fact and unpretentious. It’s probably liked so much because it doesn’t try too hard and yet manages to get the humor out from the simplest of situations.

Also, it’s a show about regular people which makes it that much more relatable. Probably the show is so relatable is also because Lena Dunham created the show inspired by real life incidents and characters in her life. About the show, Dunham had said that it portrays a part of the population that isn’t seen on shows like Sex and the City and Gossip Girl. In other words, not everyone on Girls is either good looking or successful or even rich, which is closer to reality.
