‘Drop Dead Diva’ Cancelled

Submitted by on January 16, 2013 – 10:00 am Comments

Drop Dead DivaFans of Drop Dead Diva are in for some disappointment. Turns out, after four seasons the show has been cancelled. The concept of the show no doubt was really really different. The show was basically about a curvy, sexy aspiring model who is now dead and trapped in the body of a smart and intelligent lawyer, who is also attractive.

The show recently completed its season four and Lifetime the network on which the show airs, has decided not to opt for a fifth season. The makers of the show on their part feel that the show must go on and are looking around for other networks that might be interested. In 2010 when Nancy Dubuc took over the reins of Lifetime as its new head, Drop Dead Diva and Army Wives were two shows that were already a part of the network. Turns out, Army Wife, although it’s not cancelled is slated to undergo major creative changes.

As far as Drop Dead Diva is concerned, the show was cancelled because it reportedly did not fit into the scheme of things, with the network Drop Dead Diva cancelledlooking to serve its audience edgier fare. In fact, to make the show more edgy, Kim Kardashian was brought in and made a frequent feature of the show. But, when Kim Kardashian can’t get the job done you know nothing will; is what some network exec would have said while deciding to cancel the show. It is difficult to fathom as to what the network really was expecting out of the show, and what it exactly meant by edgy. Also, how would Kim Kardashian who can barely act, have made the show edgier? The strange part is that the show has seen decent ratings since the time it premiered in July of 2009, therefore it being cancelled is even more baffling.

Of course, the network contemplated quite a bit and looked more closely at many of its current pilots, before it went ahead and took the decision. Seems, like Lifetime has liked what it has seen up until now and hence was sure enough to let Drop Dead Diva go. As far as other shows on Lifetime are concerned, The Client List has been renewed for a second season, which is slated to premier in spring, Army Wives too has been renewed for a seventh season. A news series called Devious Maids will also debut this year.
