Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green Leaving The Voice, Replaced By Usher and Shakira

Submitted by on September 18, 2012 – 11:24 am Comments

Shakira, UsherNBC announced today that Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green will not be a part of the fourth season of “The Voice.” The two will be replaced by none other than the hit R&B artist Usher and the super fine songstress, Shakira when the show returns in the spring.

Word is that Christina Aguilera will be taking time off from the singing completion so that she can release her newest album and then begin her tour. Green is also in the middle of starting some new tunes and will also be helping with a comedy that is based on his own life for the network NBC. Adam Levine and Blake Shelton will remain with the show, but in what capacity is still a bit unclear at the moment.

Robert Greenblatt, the Chairman of NBC Entertainment released a statement regarding the new additions and said that they are “thrilled to welcome Usher and Shakira to ‘The Voice.’” He said that the addition of the other “iconic artists” will help to continue in the path that has been established by Aguilera, Green, Levine, and Shelton.

Doing the two cycles back to back does require a whole lot of time, and this was the reason that Aguilera and Green were not going to be able to return, but the network was more than willing to accommodate the two’s other commitments. This does make me wonder a bit if the two will be returning once their other commitments are fulfilled. Greenblatt also stated that “The participants on our show benefit from our coaches’ expertise and their continued success in the music business allows for significant new contributions to the contestants when they return.”The Voice

Aguilera spoke about the show and stated that it has been a wonderful experience and that she feels like those she worked with are now her extended family. She also said that she was very proud to have been a part of the show and for what it stands for. She said that she has always said since day one that she is a singer and performer first, so she’s ready to get back to doing what she loves. She stated that being able to pursue her music career during the break will allow her to come back and offer more to her team in the future of the show.

Green stated that he was grateful to NBC for supporting his decision to take a break for a bit. He said that he knows he is now respected as a complete artist and not just another cast member. He is excited to be able to focus his undivided attention on his new music projects and also on the new NBC comedy, and also on a new memoir. He said it’s also great to be able to allow other talent to be a part of the show. He did say that he will be returning for the fifth season. He said that NBC was his home and “as far as Usher and Shakira are concerned – ‘mi casa su casa.’”
