cast of brady bunch nowCBS has announced that they will be bringing back one of the most beloved TV families of all time. They now have a script commitment for a “Brady Bunch” reboot. Many famous names have already committed to the project. “The Watch” star Vince Vaughn will be an executive producer of the new series. Mike Mariano (who writes for such hit shows as “My Name is Earl” and “Raising Hope”) has received the script order. Let’s hope he can use his talents for good with this new show.

This reboot will revolve around Bobby Brady, the youngest son of Mike Brady from the original series. In this new show, Bobby is a divorced father who remarries a divorcee who also has children of her own. Together the couple starts a new family, even having a child together. A slight difference in this series from the original is that Bobby and his wife’s Exes will still be very much in the picture, blending this family even further.

This is the latest in a trend of rebooting old Classics. The CW’s new 90210 is receiving great ratings, as is CBS’s “Hawaii Five-O” which is now in its third season and still going strong. CBS was previously looking to reboot “Bewitched” but has since dropped that project, though they are still attempting to start up a new “Munsters” series.

The original “Brady Bunch” series aired in September 1969 and remained on air until March 1974 on ABC. The series spurned several spin offs original bunch on stairsand also lead to two movie parodies of the show in 1995 and 196. The show was syndicated internationally as well. Since it was syndicated in 1975, an episode of the show has been broadcast somewhere in the United States and abroad every day of every year through 2008.

The show focused on a widowed architect, Mike Brady, who had three sons from his first marriage, Greg, Peter, and Bobby (who the new show will follow.) Mike married Carol and adopted her three daughters, Marcia, Jan, and Cindy. All four of the women took on the name Brady. The network refused to let Carol be a divorcee. The writers compromised with the network and no mention was ever made as to how Carol’s first marriage ended.

It will be very interesting to see how this new series will be written. I hope the show will keep many of the same family values that were included in the first series. It would be nice too if they addressed current issues in the same way as the original. Either way, I’m sure plenty of people will tune in to see how the reboot compares.
