When you hear the name Vickie Lynn Hogan, it probably doesn’t ring bell, but when you hear Anna Nicole Smith, surely all sorts of bells begin to ring. Well, a movie is being made on her life and it’s going to feature on Lifetime. Mary Harron the director of ‘American Psycho’ shall be helming this project. The movie shall start talented actors like Oscar winner Martin Landau and the Oscar nominated Virginia Madsen. Craig Zadan, Neil Meron and Judith Verno are the executive producers of the film.

Written by John Rice and Joe Batteer, the biopic is based on the true life story of Vickie Lynn Hogan, a pretty but plain girl growing up in a small Texas town who transforms herself into Anna Nicole Smith – a voluptuous, Marilyn Monroe-esque Playboy pin-up and model. Determined to be noticed, for better or for worse, Vickie gets her wish, but it comes at a steep price, both for her and her beloved son, Danny. Virginia shall be playing the role of Virgie, Vickie’s mother. Landau on the other hand has been roped in to play oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall who married Smith, who was a stripper at the time he saw her. Also, he was 89 and she was 26 at the time.

Thirteen months after his marriage to Smith, Marshall died at age 90 on August 4, 1995, in Houston. Within weeks of J. Howard Marshall’s death, Smith and her husband’s son, E. Pierce Marshall, battled over her claim for half of her late husband’s US$1.6 billion estate. She, temporarily joined forces with J. Howard’s other son, James Howard Marshall III, whom the elder Howard had disowned. Howard III claimed J. Howard orally promised him a portion of his estate; like Smith, Howard III was also left out of J. Howard’s will.

The case went on for more than a decade, producing a highly publicized court battle in Texas and several judicial decisions that went both for and against Smith in that time. On February 8, 2007, Smith was found unresponsive in room 607 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. Her death was ruled an accidental drug overdose of the sedative chloral hydrate that became increasingly lethal when combined with other prescription drugs in her system. It would be interesting to see how true the movie remains to Smith’s life.
