Tom Hardy Might Play George Mallory

Tom Hardy, besides earning the reputation as being an extremely talented actor, is also earning the reputation of being a human chameleon. The man can blend into any character seamlessly, and you wouldn’t even realize that it’s him playing the role, as you would be totally engrossed observing the character he is playing on screen. If you need any proof of it, you can watch the two recent movies of his namely, The Dark Knight Rises and Lawless.

It would be an understatement to say that, he has done justice to the roles. Hence it can be called nothing less than an exciting proposition that, the man is in negotiations to play the legendary mountaineer George Mallory. Basically, Doug Liman is considering casting Hardy in the role, in his movie ‘Everest’.  For the uninitiated, Mallory was the man who could have been the first person to reach the summit of Mt. Everest; some even say that he was actually the first man to reach the summit.

Although, there has been no proof found to that effect. There is no denying the fact that, Mallory was one of the greatest mountaineers ever, and he before tying his hand at conquering Everest, had conquered many a peak and that too without the aid of oxygen. He tried to do the same when it came to Everest, but failed in his attempt twice. Unfortunately for him, his third attempt didn’t turn out to be a charm. He in fact took the aid of oxygen for his third attempt, but never returned, from his expedition.

It was revealed that he during his Everest expedition, was carrying the photograph of his beloved wife in his pocket, and had planned to plant it at the summit. In 1999, when his body was recovered, the photograph wasn’t found on his body. This gave rise to all kinds of speculation, with the believers even claiming that, he had actually made it to the summit and was on his way back. The truth shall probably remain buried somewhere in the icy mountains forever, but Liman on his part is surely hoping to exploit this one angle, which can make for a great love story along with the backdrop of a full blown adventure flick.
