‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Crosses $1 Billion

When it comes to a movie like The Dark Knight Rises and the kind of money it has made, using the expression ‘laughing all the way to the bank’ would be nothing less than an understatement. In fact recently, it achieved a milestone which only 11 others movies in the history of cinema have achieved. Everyone involved with the movie and specifically its financers and distributors must have surely thought the movie would make good money. But a billion is something that dreams are made of, and it’s a dream no one really dares to see till it’s been achieved.

There is no denying the fact that, a billion is probably not as big a deal as it used to be a few years ago, when the movie budgets were slightly smaller and inflation hadn’t eroded the dollar. But it’s still a magical figure and one can safely assume shall keep being one, at least for the next decade. Recently, The Avengers too managed to achieve this landmark making it a part of this club, which at least for now is pretty exclusive.

It would be really interesting to see, as to how many new movies make an entry into this club, in the near future. If one were to hazard a few guesses, ‘The Hobbit’ would surely be on the top of that list. Then there is the new Justice League movie, which also has the potential to make the cut. Another worthy candidate would be the new Superman movie, which fans world over are keenly looking forward to.

It would interest you to know that, Titanic was the very first member of this club. What makes Titanic’s achievement even greater is the fact that, it was made way back in 1997, when a movie earning a billion dollars was considered as impossible as time travel. Well, Titanic not only achieved the impossible, but went on to make more than $2 billion. Until a few years back ‘Titanic’ was the leader on the board, and then came ‘Avatar’ and shattered all records. Probably now, James Cameron can do something that Einstein couldn’t, in other words build the time machine, as with his movies he has already achieved the impossible.
