Shia LaBoeuf & Tom Hardy Fought On-set of Lawless

Lawless as anyone can gauge from the promos even if they haven’t seen the movie, is about a bunch of tough guys, who mean business.  Set in the depression era Virginia, it’s about a gang of bootleggers threatened by the arrival of a new deputy along with other authorities who want in on a share of their profits. The premise promises a lot of action, of the armed and the unarmed kind. In other words, the stars of the film have scenes where they have to pretend to rough it out with each other.

Sometimes as one can guess, things can get a bit real, especially if there are two guys who are fairly big stars in their own right. A confirmation to this effect was given by the director of Lawless, John Hillcoat, when he revealed that things did at times get competitive on the sets, with both Tom and Shia going at each other during the fight scenes. He did add though, that the issue wasn’t something that couldn’t be easily handled. He in fact defended the two by describing the whole thing as brotherly, besides explaining how much the actors respect each other’s talent.

Interestingly, from what he said it did seem like things might have gotten a bit out of hand on the sets, but he probably didn’t want to make a big deal out of it as he wants to work with the actors again and hence didn’t want to rub them the wrong way. One also can’t help but imagine, as to why someone would want to pick a fight with a guy like Tom Hardy, who is the new tough guy on the block.

More so a guy like, Shia LaBoeuf who might be a decent enough actor, but certainly can’t be considered a tough guy.  It would have made for quite a scoop if the director had come clean, and given the details of how the ‘brotherly brawl’ between the two went. Guy Pearce too is a part of this movie, but was possibly wise enough to stay away from partaking in any of the shenanigans.
