Fans of the Sherlock Holmes movie franchise, who have kept their eyes peeled for any updated about ‘Sherlock Holmes 3’, would be glad to know that the script for the movie is already in development. This was recently confirmed by Jude Law. The actor confirmed that a script is in development for a sequel to 2011′s Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, but no production dates have yet been confirmed.

“There’s certainly talk of it, and I know there’s a script being played around with,” Law was quoted as saying. “But Downey’s a busy boy, and I’m a busy boy, so we’ll see” he added. “We’re a very happy team and we have a lot of fun, and we also think there’s still a lot of legs in that duo,” he went on, referring to the on-screen dynamic between his Dr John Watson and Robert Downey Jr’s Sherlock Holmes. It was reported earlier this year that director Guy Ritchie had signed on for a third film, and was keen to shoot the new installment in Hollywood. For the uninitiated, ‘Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows’ to which ‘Sherlock Holmes 3’ is a sequel, was released in 2011.

It was directed by Guy Ritchie and produced by Joel Silver, Lionel Wigram, Susan Downey and Dan Lin. It is a sequel to the 2009 film Sherlock Holmes, based on the titular character created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The screenplay is written by Kieran Mulroney and Michele Mulroney. Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law reprise their roles as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson and are joined by Noomi Rapace as Simza and Jared Harris as Professor Moriarty.

In the movie, Holmes and Watson join forces to outwit and bring down their most cunning adversary, Professor James Moriarty. Although influenced by Conan Doyle’s short story “The Final Problem”, the film follows an original story and is not a strict adaptation. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows earned $186,848,418 in North America as well as $357,000,000 in other countries for a worldwide total of $543,848,418. It is the 12th highest-grossing film of 2011 worldwide. Judging by the high degree of anticipation for the third part, it might actually end up beating the collections of the second and the first part in the franchise.
