New Title for 300 Follow-Up

Well it wouldn’t disappoint anyone much that the new installment of the 300 franchise, has been given a new name. Fans of both the movie and Zack Snyder, basically want the movie to get made and released. Therefore the name given is of little consequence, till the time they get to see the follow-up of this exciting film. For all of you who were probably assuming that the sequel of 300 would be named something like 301, or something similar, rest assured there are no such plans.

The upcoming prequel/sequel to Zack Snyder’s blockbuster 2007 action flick (which is technically being labeled a “spin-off”) has been re-titled “300: Rise of an Empire,” replacing the previous title, “300: The Battle of Artemisia.” This could also mean there would be a change in the basic plotline from what was envisioned earlier. Although, no mention to this effect has been made to the media, so the possibility of only a title change and nothing more, is pretty strong.  Directed by Noam Murro (“Smart People”), “Rise of an Empire” stars Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green, Lena Headey, Hans Matheson, Rodrigo Santoro (reprising his role as Xerxes), Igal Naor, Callan Mulvey, Jack O’Connell and Andrew Tiernan.

The film will center on the efforts of ancient Greek general Themistocles (Stapleton) to repel the second Persian invasion of Greece, which took place concurrent to the historical battle featured in the original movie. From whatever has been revealed it can be safely said that, this movie too shall see some really great action and drama. It though, would be interesting to see how the fans react to Gerard Butler’s absence from the film. There is no doubt that Sullivan Stapleton, shall be projected very much in the same light as Gerard Butler was, as far as the physicality of his character is concerned (read six-pack abs and bulging muscles).

But, will he play the role of the Greek general in a manner similar to Butler’s, which in other words means, with a cocky attitude and a laconic sense of humor? Or will his character be given a completely different, but an interesting dimension? “300: Rise of an Empire” is slated for release on August 2, 2013, and that is when we all shall finally know.
