Justice League to go head-to-head with Avengers 2
It has been reported by LA Times that, Warner Bros wants to begin shooting for the Justice League movie in time for a 2015 release. Interestingly, Avengers 2 is also slated for release on 1 May 2015. As you might have already guessed, this would mean that the two movies could clash head-on. Warner Bros decision could be called nothing short of interesting; in fact some would even term it as foolhardy. The magic that Avengers can spin at the box office is something that has already been witnessed and proven, on the other hand Justice League is a completely new entrant into this fray.
Also, nearly all the characters in The Avengers, has had really successful box office runs individually, be it Thor, Iron Man or Captain America. Also, the very actors who played those three characters in the individual films are the ones who are in The Avengers, which in other words means they are familiar faces and hence the audience has already formed a connect with them. The same can’t be said about the characters on Justice League though. Yes, we have seen Batman movies and Superman movies and even a movie on Green Lantern, but none of the actors from the individual films would be cast in the Justice League film. Unless you count Henry Cavill, who is soon to be seen as Superman in the ‘Man of Steel’, and might also be cast as, Superman in the Justice League film. Cavill’s Superman though, is still to prove his box office mettle.

Even in the case of Batman as far as the Justice League movie is concerned, casting Christian Bale would probably have made a lot of sense, as he for the present generation is Batman and has proven his true worth at the box office, three times over. Bale probably was tired of playing the caped crusader and declined the role. But, accepting someone else as Bruce Wayne and Batman, even if it’s the Adonis looking Armie Hammer, is probably going to be a difficult task for the audience. We all know how the Green Lantern movie fared so we don’t even need to go there.
The point is the Justice League movie would cast actors who haven’t proven their mettle at the box office while playing superheroes. On the other hand ‘The Avengers’ in its first installment earned more than a billion dollars and therefore laid the perfect groundwork for a sequel. Hence, one would call the Warner Bros decision to pit the Justice League against The Avengers, foolhardy.
