‘Hot Tub Time Machine’ Sequel A Possibility

Hot Tub Time Machine SequelHot Tub Time Machine, many would agree was one hell of a film. In fact, you could say it was like ‘Hangover’ but with time travel thrown in. The best part is the movie did not take itself seriously and even the cast of film seemed to have a ball when they were acting in. It did not light the box office on fire either, as far as collections were concerned, but it seems it did rather well in home video sales. This is understandable, as many might have discovered the film and how great it was, only when it came to home video and must have in turn told their friends and people they know about it.

The film must have also created quite a buzz on internet forums and social networking sites. MGM the studio that made the first film also feels the concept of the film has potential and therefore is contemplating making its sequel.

The question is, if this is really a good idea, mainly because the first film was made on a relatively low budget and was a Hot Tub Time Machine part 2simple fun film. But, Hollywood has a bad habit of trying to milk a particular concept, if it feels there is even a glimmer of hope that it would the second time round rake in some money. As a part of this effort the studio that made the original film, tries to make the sequel even bigger and better and very often fails. This is mainly because, sometimes the concept that was liked by everyone so much is good enough only for one film and milking it for two or more films is nothing short of overkill. This obviously doesn’t apply to superhero films, as we have seen in the recent years, but Hot Tub Time Machine is no superhero film.

Many would argue that even a film like Hangover had a sequel and will probably have many more. But we all know how good the sequel was, sure the sequel might have performed well at the box office, but it did not even come close to the first film. Coming back to Hot Tub Time Machine, MGM on its part has reached out to Robinson, Corddry and Duke to reprise their roles with the original film’s director Steve Pink being courted to return. There is no news about Cusack being approached though. He will probably be approached eventually, as he is an integral part of the original film and is the biggest star as far as the cast of the film goes. So, making the sequel without him seems virtually impossible.
