“Catching Fire” has now started filming. The production on the “Hunger Games” sequel began filming this week in Atlanta Georgia. The film will move on to Hawaii for its beaches and jungles and wrap up filming in December. This is all according to a press release from Lionsgate.

Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Donald Sutherland, and Woody Harrelson are all returning for the sequel, but there are some new additions as well. The new cast includes Jeffrey Wright, Jena Malone, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amanda Plummer, and Sam Claflin. Francis Lawrence will be directing this film, who is replacing Gary Ross.

Lionsgate released a bit of a plot summary. “Catching Fire” will begin with the return of Katniss Everdeen to her home in District 12 shortly after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with Peeta Mellark, who was her fellow tribute from District 12. Because they won, they must turn right around and begin a “Victor’s Tour” leaving behind all their family and friends now. During the tour, Katniss is able to tell that a rebellion is beginning, but the Capitol is still under the control of President Snow as they all prepare for the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell.) This competition could very well change Panem forever.

Hoffman, who is one of the most high profile newbies to the “Hunger Games” world, was flying from the set and the Venice Film Festival last weekend. He ended up winning a Best Actor prize for his role in “The Master.”

Claflin is going to be starring as Finnick Odair, but apparently, he wasn’t the only one going out for the role. Hedlund states that he was approached for the part, but he was working on “On the Road” at the time. He said the entire thing was shot in just 23 days and he was completely immersed in it. During that time, he just wasn’t able to get around to reading the “Hunger Games” novels.Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen

As of right now, “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” is set to be released to theaters on November 22, 2013. The original “Hunger Games” was just released earlier this year on March 23rd. The film set records for its opening day grossing $67.3 million. When it was released, the film grossed $152.5 million on its opening weekend, which was the third largest of any film in North America. This was the first film since “Avatar” to remain at the number one place at the box office for four consecutive weekends. The movie has made over $685 million worldwide at the box office and was just released last month on DVD and Blu-ray.
