The basis of the story changes with Dredd 3D of course as Dredd is no longer a prisoner for a crime he didn’t commit. The story-line for the modern Judge Dredd as IMDB puts it “In a violent, futuristic city where the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner, a cop teams with a trainee to take down a gang that deals the reality-altering drug, SLO-MO.” Starring Karl Urban as the ruthless Judge Dredd.

The film is set to be released in the USA on the 21st of September of this year and there are plans from writer Alex Garland (28 Days Later, Sunshine) has stated that he is contemplating making this into a trilogy. Based on the success that franchises have had, this wouldn’t be a bad idea. However, many have asked if this Dredd is going to be able to outshine Stallone’s portrayal of the futuristic cop.

Many have said that when the original Judge Dredd was released back in 1995 with stars like Sylvester Stallone and Armand Assante with Director Danny Cannon, the story-line had more of a feel to it. However, many doubts are squashed when they realizes that writers from the original have modernized their favorite character.

The original Judge Dredd unfortunately didn’t fare well in the theaters at the time and didn’t really cater to audiences. With the modernization dredd 1995 stillof a classic character, could Dredd 3D be better than the original? Another complaint that people have is the rating on the movie. The film is Rated R for strong bloody violence, language, drug use and some sexual content, but many feel that in today’s society, that is every day things and that the film should be taken down to PG-13. However, does it really matter? The film is full of violence and death and therefore, the MPAA has it right to rate this with an R rating.

The movie has promise of being an excellent film. The fact that it is going to be in “Real 3D” is interesting since a lot of movies recently have said that they were in 3D turned out not to be. Karl Urban, who many have seen in Star Trek when he played Bones and Priest when he played Black Hat, is the perfect fit to fill the shoes of the great Sylvester Stallone. It is going to be interesting to also see what the comparison between the two films is going to be like. Will you be seeing this film?
