Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Film

Doctor WhoThe popular British series “Doctor Who” turns 50 years old next year and BBC Two has ordered a 90 minute movie that will delve into the origins of the series. “An Adventure in Space and Time” will tell the beginning of “Doctor Who.” The show is the longest running science fiction show and the film will take a look at all those who bring the fiction to reality.

The show was first broadcasted in November of 1963. There have been many actors to tackle the Doctor. Matt Smith is the 11th actor to take on this role. Mark Gatiss, who writes and acts in “Doctor Who” wrote the special with Steven Moffat and Caroline skinner, who both have a part in bringing the series to life.

The film will tell how William Hartnell went from playing “hard-man” roles to becoming a children’s hero. The franchise has only continued to grow since then, and the most recent season was one of the most watched ever on BBC America. There have even been a huge jump in the number of iTunes downloads. The series definintely has an occult following. Fans of the show are very loyal.

“This is the story of how an unlikely set of brilliant people created a true television original,” said Gatiss. This is a story that has been waiting to be told and Gatiss is especially excited to make that happen.

The show first aired on BBC One in 1963 to 1989 in it’s original form. The series was revamped and launched again in 2005. In between the two series, there was a made for TV movie that was co produced by Universal Pictures and 20th Century Fox that was aired on the Fox Network in the United states in 1996.Doctor Who

The show is about the adventures of a Time Lord, the Doctor, who is a time traveling humanoid alien with two hearts. He travels the universe in his TARDIS, which looks a lot like a blue British police box, which were everywhere when the series first began in 1963. The Doctor faces many different foes and has to work with different companions to try and save civilization, help people, and right wrongs.

The casting, production, and broadcasting schedules will be announced next year, when the film is going to air on BBC Two. The next season of “Doctor Who” will be starting in the United Kingdom later this month, and will begin on BBC America this fall.
