Charlize Theron leaves her mark in every role she plays and over the years she has proven to be one of the finest actresses in Hollywood. Hence, her being chosen to star in a new project can only be considered good news.   Basically, Theron has been roped in to star in the movie adaptation of the novel ‘Dark Places’ penned by Gillian Flynn. For those unaware, the novel published in 2009 deals with class issues in rural America and also focuses on the wave of Satanic Cult hysteria that swept through the United States in the 80s.

The book was a bestseller and received a lot of critical acclaim. The story is centered on a woman named Libby Day who witnesses the murder of her sister and mother, in what appears to be a satanic cult ritual. She on her part manages to escape and save her life. Later, she testifies in court against her teenage brother. Years later, she runs into a group of investigators who believe her brother was innocent. She joins the investigators to find out the truth.

Interestingly, Amy Adams was initially slated to play the role of Libby Day in the film until she was recently replaced by Theron. Amy Adams is a great actress and would surely have done justice to the role, but audiences wouldn’t mind Theron replacing her, as she too is fully capable of getting into the skin of the character. For those who require reminding, Theron won the Oscar for the best actress in 2004, for her role in the film Monster. In Monster she had to get into the skin of a female serial killer and had to greatly alter her appearance to boot, she more than succeeded on both counts.

Coming back to Dark Places, it’s slated to be directed by Gilles Paquet-Brenner, who has been a part of the project right from the beginning. Theron’s company Denver and Delilah Productions is coproducing the film, which clearly hints at the reason why also, Theron is starring in the film. After all, if you own a production company and it’s producing a film and you are one of the top actresses around, why would u waste money hiring some other actress, when you can bring down the production cost by hiring yourself. Theron’s company is also producing a film called Murder Mystery. Guess who is one of the stars in the film?
