Ben Affleck to Direct “Justice League”?

Ben Affleck directing film behind cameraRumor was that Ben Affleck was being considered to direct the upcoming “Justice League,” though rep for Affleck has denied the claims. I personally have a few mixed feelings on this… but I digress. This superhero flick will feature some of the favorite heroes of all time, including Batman, Superman, The Green Lantern, Flash, and Wonder Woman. Apparently the movie has been a long time coming, and with the recent success of “Avengers” Warner Brothers has put more interest into the film.

Christopher Nolan, a legend when it comes to directing superhero movies, has said he will not be attempting the “Justice League.” Apparently Affleck was pretty high up on the list of those who could be trusted. Word is, he’s the only one to receive the script, which was written by Will Beall who also wrote “Gangster Squad.”

Why am I torn? That has a lot to do with Affleck’s first try at the superhero gig in 2003, “Daredevil.” It is probably one of the lowest ranking superhero movies, in my opinion. But again, Affleck did an amazing job with “Gone Baby Gone” and “The Town.” He has also directed an upcoming political film, “Argo.” We hope that whoever is hired to direct “Justice League” can continue in the footsteps of Nolan, keeping the superheroes as realistic as possible, and also presenting more of their back stories to help us understand who they are and why they are the way they are.

If Affleck does end up as director of “Justice League” it would be possibility that he could take on a role in the flick. He has been staring in his own films recently. He had roles in both “The Town” and in the upcoming “Argo.”

“Justice League” is rumored to be released the summer of 2015. That is also apparently when “Avengers 2″ is supposed to be released. If this is the case, it would mean a summer of some definite hits, but also, the two would be competing against each other in the box office. I’m not sure that’s the best plan. Again, in my opinion, “Avengers 2″ would probably

beat out “Justice League” simply because it is tried and true. Hopefully, this battle will help both films bring their A game, as they know everyone will be comparing the flicks.

There’s no real proof one way or the other if Affleck is taking the job or not. And again, whoever is hired to take on this massive project, we hope they can keep up with the style of Christopher Nolan’s Batman series and his upcoming Superman film, “Man of Steel.
