‘Beautiful Disaster’ Getting Made Into A Movie

book cover of the movieWarner Brothers may have missed out on scooping up the movie rights to the “50 Shades of Grey” Series and maybe that’s why they went out and scooped up what they thought was the next best thing. Warner Bros. recently acquired rights for the young adult novel “Beautiful Disaster”, winning the bidding war with CBS Films, which has been marketed as a young adult friendly version of the popular exotic fiction trilogy, likely by someone who has never read both novels.

The similarities are just the unlikely couple and a female lead who does not sleep around, but that being the argument suddenly a lot of books now fit the same “young adult friendly” 50 Shades description. In retrospect, readers are maturing and so the authors are taking their time to be as detailed as possible. That is the true sign of an author.

What this book is really about is about college student Abby who desires a new beginning while starting her life at college. She then meets ladies’ man Travis who makes his money in the world of illegal street fights.  The official description is as follows: “The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby needs–and wants–to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.”

All the same by its own right, “Beautiful Disaster” will be a great movie, and will give all the young “Twilight” Saga fans a new love story to sink their teeth into, since the similarities are more the Twilight inspired than 50 Shades. Warner Brother’s isn’t likely to disappoint given the popularity of this book turned movie, but ultimately the fans will be the judges. In everything, there are always good things that come from movies that are turned from books. Eragon being the exception, of course.
