mug shot of smithOhio Authorities have arrested a man for trying to smuggle guns, knives and ammo into a theater, for a late night showing of The Dark Knight Rises. Police say that the manager of the theater became suspicious when he saw the man try to bring in a bag into the 10pm showing of the movie. He alerted an off duty police officer who happened to be working security detail at the theater that night.

The off duty office searched the bag and found a Glock 9mm handgun, ammunition clips, and three knives — and immediately alerted police. The man was identified to police as 37 year old Scott Smith, who did NOT have a concealed carry permit. He was arrested however without incident and even offered to put his weapons back into his car, which was not going to happen. Smith’s house was also searched following his arrest, but nothing has been reported.

This incident is only one of several following the bloody massacre in Colorado, which left 12 dead and 58 others wounded. There have also been at least three other known incidents where threats have been made involving The Dark Knight Rises in Maine, Arizona, and California. In the incident in Maine a man was arrested when he told authorities that he was on his way to shoot a former employer a day after watching The Dark Knight Rises. Maine State Polices stated that Timothy Courtois of Biddeford, Maine, had been pulled over for a speeding violation, but when police searched his car they found an AK-47 assault weapon, four handguns, ammunition and news clippings about the mass shooting that left 12 people dead early Friday, authorities said.

In Arizona a man who “appeared drunk” according to movie goers, made threatening comments when confronted in the theater, the incident in California was very similar except his comments were made when the movie did not start on time.

It is getting to a point where NOBODY wants to go see this movie anymore out of fear that something will happen. Myself included, I saw the movie this weekend, because my husband really wanted to, and could not help but worry about whether or not some crazy person was going to pull a gun and since we live in a state where you can conceal carry who would have even seen it coming.

The thing I am wondering is why the trend? We know why James Holmes did it, but why are these other people coming out of the wood work to try and copycat him? Senseless acts of Violence and then Warner Brothers gets blamed? It all just needs to stop.
