Ben Hur remakeSurely, for those of you who have seen Ben Hur and love the film, it must be impossible to imagine anyone but Charlton Heston playing the lead. Well, it seems like you can indulge in some imagining, as MGM is planning to remake the classic. Many would argue that, classics like Ben Hur need to be left alone and not be remade, as the movie was just perfect the way it was, while many others would argue that the whole purpose of remaking a movie is so the current generation can relate to it.

There is no denying the fact that, Hollywood for sometime hasn’t seen a decent sword and sandal epic since Gladiator. It would therefore be exciting to see if MGM along with script writer Keith Clarke can do justice to the story. Turns out, Clarke’s script is more faithful to the book Ben-Hur: A Tale Of The Christ, that it is to the 1959 film. If the movie is more true to the book, it would mean the movie will spend less time focusing on the feud between Judah Ben-Hur and Messala and shall instead concentrate more on the formative years of the two.

Reportedly, the story of Christ would also be woven into the script, to give the movie a religious dimension. It is debatable as to how Ben Hur rebootgood an idea it is to give the movie a religious angle, as the world today is different from what it was in 1959 and even then the makers of the original film, did not dwell too much on religion. MGM probably feels that if a movie like Passion of the Christ can make millions at the box-office, with its purely religious concept, so can Ben Hur.

The movie would surely be made on a grand scale, as anything less would disappoint fans. It would be interesting to see as to who are chosen to play the crucial parts in the film. Also, a director for the film is yet to be chosen although Sean Daniel and Joni Levin are attached to produce. For those unaware, Ben Hur is basically the story of a Jewish prince who is sent into slavery by his friend who is a Roman. He eventually regains his freedom and returns to wreak vengeance.
