William Shatner Sued For Harassment

William ShatnerWilliam Shatner is making headlines now for harassing and berating a former employee. The employee had been injured on the job and was harassed after refusing to sign a waiver. Oscar Alfaro and his wife Delmy filed the paperwork today with the Los Angeles County Superior court. The lawsuit states that the couple both worked for Shatner for twenty years. Oscar was a handyman and his wife was a housekeeper.

The documents say that Oscar said he was injured while he was busy working at the actor’s Studio City home. When the handyman refused to sign a document releasing Shatner from any financial responsibility, Shatner began to harass the Alfaro’s. Shatner’s retaliation became so awful, the couple was forced to quit their jobs with the actor.

In the lawsuit, The Alfaro’s said they suffered humiliation, embarrassment, and mental anguish, not to mention the lost wages. They are suing for unspecified damages.

Shatner recently came back to TV, reprising his role as the Priceline Negotiator. In January, the Negotiator died in a fiery explosion as he saved a group of tourist who were plunging off a bridge in a bus. Shatner told reporters at that time that he was in “grief mode.” But 94% of customers told Priceline that they wanted the Star Trek alumni back.

The latest television commercial shows Shatner on a remote beach, and a Priceline.com agent is attempting to convince the Negotiator to come back. “You’ve been busy for a dead man,” the agent says to which Shatner responds, surfboard tucked under his arm “Surfing is my life now.” He then gives his usual Priceline.com pitch, speaking of the company’s deals on hotels, flights and car rentals. “We’ll see where the waves take me,” he says before jumping out into the sea.

Priceline.com needs Shatner for more than just its commercials spouting customer savings. The company’s stock “pummeled by investors” after a very disappointing third-quarter forecast. The company said that it is now functioning under the idea that the European economic climate will only continue to further deteriorate. Much of the company’s business comes from Europe and with all the concerns over sovereign debt and the worth of the Euro has had a huge negative impact on operating results and it is more than likely to have the same impact on future results.

Hopefully the Negotiator can help bring some more business in. And hopefully Shatner is able to work peacefully with his former employees to resolve the lawsuit as calmly as possible.
