Two White Police Officers Exonerated Against Racial Profiling Claims By Tyler Perry

Tyler PerryTwo white Atlanta police officers where exonerated after an internal investigation by the Atlanta Police Department after Tyler Perry accused the officers of being racists. The whole ordeal was the cops’ word against Perry’s.

Back in April, the Atlanta Police Department began their internal investigation when Perry had publicly claimed that the officers had racially profiled him during a traffic stop. Perry was leaving his Atlanta studio. He made a left turn from a right lane to make sure that he was not being followed. Perry says that this is a safety precaution that his security team taught him. But as it turns out, this little trick is illegal.

Perry was pulled over by officers for an illegal turn and then claimed that he was harassed by two “hostile” white officers until a black officer arrived on the scene and recognized him. This whole thing sounds to me like Perry was just pissed the officers didn’t know just who he was and weren’t giving him special treatment. But that’s just my opinion.

The black officer then took both of the white officers to the back of Perry’s car and spoke to them with hushed tones. After the black officer spoke with the white ones, one of the white officers came back to Perry while one stayed back near his car. The one who approached Perry after he found out who he is was very apologetic. Perry wrote that racial profiling is a hate crime that should be investigated by the FBI.

Perry did not receive a ticket. The representatives for the Atlanta Police Department said they would look into whether any policies or procedures were violated during the stop. According to the documents that were released by the police department, the officers could not see through Perry’s tinted windows, so racially profiling Perry was not a possibility.

Perry’s vehicle actually matched the description of a stolen vehicle, and that was the primary reason Perry was pulled over. That, and the whole breaking the law thing. Sadly, there was no dashboard camera in either one of the two patrol cars to back up what the officers are saying. The internal affairs officers who investigated the incident did state, “I would submit the evidence shows the actions off both officers with the regard to the traffic stop of Mr. Perry were justified, lawful and proper.”

I wonder just what Mr. Perry will think of that. A rep for Perry says he is not currently in the country and can’t be reached for a comment on the announcement. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
