Tom Brokaw Hospitalized

Submitted by on September 6, 2012 – 10:00 am Comments

The legendary news reporter Tom Brokaw has been hospitalized in Charlotte, North Carolina. The 72- year old was rushed to the hospital, as he felt slightly light-headed. He was appearing on MSNBC’s show “Morning Joe”, when he suddenly took ill on the sets. A rep for MSNBC says … “On the set of ‘Morning Joe’ this morning, Tom Brokaw felt light-headed. Out of an abundance of caution, he was taken to a hospital and is being evaluated.” It is common knowledge that he was the former anchor of the “Nightly News” on NBC.

With his deep and incredibly powerful voice, and his Midwestern accent, Tom created quite an impression in the minds of his viewers.  Therefore, it’s no wonder that he was involved with the “Nightly News” right from 1982 to 2004. But that’s not all; he is the author of The Greatest Generation (1998) and other books and has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors, over the years. Also, he is the only person to host all three major NBC News programs: The Today Show, NBC Nightly News, and, briefly, Meet the Press.

At the peak of his career NBC simply couldn’t do without Tom, as far as news was concerned. Even today, he serves as a Special Correspondent for NBC News and works on documentaries for other outlets. Surely, anyone who wants to get into news anchoring can learn a thing or two from him. From the looks of it, the man has really kept himself busy despite his advancing age, but he now should probably slow down a bit, and this health scare is  possibly an indication of that. After all, he hasn’t really slowed down since he joined NBC News way back in 1966.

Another rare feat that he has achieved is being married to the same woman for the past five decades. He married Meredith Lynn Auld a former Miss South Dakota, way back in 1962, and the two have stuck with each other since. Probably it’s also one of the factors that, has kept his going. Here’s hoping that the couple enjoy many more years of togetherness. While we all wait with bated breath for further reports, as regards to his health.

Update: The newsman has been given a clean bill of health. “After medical evaluation and a round of tests, Tom was pronounced in great health and has been discharged” NBC News President Steve Capus said.
