Ryan Seacrest Is Keeping ‘American Idol’ Alive Feels Nigel Lythgoe
Recently, executive producer Nigel Lythgoe said something that many might actually agree with. He voiced his opinion about American Idol and about its host Ryan Seacrest. Basically, Nigel feels Seacrest is the lifeblood of the show and if Seacrest isn’t a part of the show anymore, the show might die out. The makers of the show also seem to feel the same way it seems, which is the reason why Seacrest has been an integral part of the show since its inception.
Also, his paycheck has gotten fatter with each passing year, which should give you an indication of how important the makers feel he is to the show. American Idol wouldn’t really feel like American Idol without the familiar face of Seacrest staring back at you when you tune in to watch the show, many would say. He has become the brand ambassador of sorts for the show. Nigel certainly seems to be a fan and was quoted as saying “Ryan Seacrest drives the entire program. He’s not on an earpiece or anything. He’s not beholden to anybody. He controls the show. He’s really important.”

It’s true what Nigel has said, Seacrest does carry the whole show on his shoulders and doesn’t seem to require too much assistance in hosting it. Well, he has been hosting the show for quite a few years now and knows it’s workings like the back of his hand, so it isn’t very surprising that he does a good job of hosting it. But, that’s probably not the only reason he is still a part of the show. As mentioned earlier, he is a familiar face that not only the audiences like to see but even the contestants and the judges on the show relate with.
“It would be very, very difficult to replace Ryan Seacrest” Nigel was quoted as saying and these very simple words aptly describe how everyone who is involved with the show and everyone who likes the show also probably feel. In fact, American Idol might eventually come to an end before we ever get to see Ryan Seacrest being replaced with another host. Nigel on his part kind of contradicted what he said earlier, when he added “I’ve never believed that Idol as a franchise is beholden to any individual because everybody said it would die the minute Simon Cowell left, and it hasn’t”. Surely, the makers of the show don’t ever want to take a chance by replacing Seacrest.
