McKayla Maroney and Aly RaismanOlympians McKayla Maroney and Aly Raisman were both injured during a performance on the uneven bars as part of the Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnastics in Ontario, California over the weekend. Maroney, who won one gold and one silver medal during this summer’s Olympic Games in London, fell after a simple dismount from the bars. Maroney, who is only 16 years old, had to be carried out of the arena by the medics.

Raisman, who won two gold medals and one bronze medal during the Olympic Games this summer, had a fall after she failed to land a Shaposhnikova.

A Shaposhnikova is named after the renowned gymnast Natalia Shaposhnikova and the move begins on the lower of the two bars, facing away from the high bar. The gymnast first does a free hip circle around the bar, lets go of the lower bar and propelling up to the higher bar, catches it to finish the move.

Raisman actually landed on her stomach on the one part of the arena’s concrete floor that was not covered by a mat. She was however, able to walk out of the arena. Prior to the performances, Raisman had tweeted a photo of herself and her team mates asking “Ontario… Are you ready for us?”

Neither Raisman nor Maroney were able to participate in the show’s finale, in which each of the gymnasts was lifted up into the air, while each clutched a separate ring of the five Olympic rings.

Reportedly Raisman is doing just fine and is preparing in San Diego for the next stop of the gymnastics tour. Maroney was still in the hospital as of yesterday. She was having some additional testing done on her left knee in order to determine the full extent of her injury. During the tests Maroney was tweeting about the hospital food, and it seems like she is in good spirits, following her injury.

Raisman, who is from Needham, Massachusetts, only had bruised knees but was not expected to miss any of the shows.

Over the summer, Raisman, Maroney, and the other members of the “Fab Five” (Gabby Douglas, Kyla Ross, and Jordyn Wieber) were able to win the gold medal at the Olympics Games in London and brought home the first Olympic title for the US women since 1996. Raisman’s second gold was earned on the floor exercise, and Maroney won her silver medal on the vault. The Fab Five

The stop in Ontario was only the second stop of the 40 city gymnastics tour, so the girls have a long way to go before they are done showing off their skills. Hopefully they are able to remain healthy and well during all of it. The next show will be Thursday in San Diego.
