Matthew McConaughey’s Weight Plunges Further

Submitted by on November 12, 2012 – 12:39 pm Comments

A while ago it was reported how Matthew McConaughey, has given up on his muscular physique for a role in an upcoming film. He in fact was seen looking really gaunt. But recently, he was seen in LAX looking abysmally thin, and actually much thinner than before. Basically, Matthew is wasting away to play Ron Woodruff in the movie “The Dallas Buyers Club” — the true story of a man who contracted HIV through drug use in the ’80s and has to smuggle life-saving medications from Mexico.

Turns out, Matthew is actually 30 pounds below his usual weight, which should give you an idea of the amount of weight he has lost. “Matthew starts shooting this weekend, so he’s at his absolute lowest weight,” a source close to the actor told People. “In a month, he’ll begin to put it back on” the source added. In fact, McConaughey, 43, is almost as well known for showing off his bulging muscles as he is for his acting career, so much so that old friend Matthew Damon has developed a spot-on impersonation of McConaughey lobbying for more pectoral time in his movies.

It would be interesting to see, the kind of impact all his efforts have on the role and the movie he is losing it all for.  Matthew probably wants to prove himself as a really serious actor, and wants to be taken seriously as an actor, something which hasn’t happened too often in his acting career, thanks to the kinds of roles and movies he has chosen. Matthew isn’t the first one in Hollywood to lose weight for a role.

For The Machinist (2004) Christian Bale lost about 62 lb, reducing his body mass to 120 lb. He starved himself for more than four months before filming, reportedly living on a cup of coffee and an apple (or a tin of tuna) each day (about 275 calories). 50 Cent went through one of the most dramatic cases of weight loss for a role. For the film Things Fall Apart, he lost a huge amount of weight, to play an American football player suffering from cancer. Natalie Portman lost 20 pounds to play a ballerina in Black Swan (2010). She trained for five hours a day, seven days a week for the role. Here’s hoping Matthew’s hard work pays off.
