Lance Armstrong Facing $12M Lawsuit

Submitted by on February 6, 2013 – 2:00 pm Comments

Lance Armstrong LawsuitEveryone knows that Lance Armstrong’s world came crashing down even before he made those candid confessions to Oprah. There is no denying the fact that Armstrong has only himself to blame for all that is happening to him and it seems like his problems are all set to compound. Turns out, SCA Promotions that paid Armstrong big bonuses for winning three Tour de France races, plans to sue Armstrong to get its money back. Well, it only seems fair that they ask for their money back now that it’s out in the open that his whole career was one big lie. But, Armstrong probably already knew what the repercussions would be once he confessed to everything and he still went ahead.

One can assume here that Armstrong is really repenting and is therefore ready to give back all his winnings from every avenue, because the money is tainted with his lies. After all, why else would he confess publicly to his sins? Surely, he must have consulted his lawyers before his confession and was made aware of all the repercussions he would have to face, as a result of revealing the truth.

Attorney of SCA Promotions Jeffrey Tillotson talked to CNN’s Ashleigh Banfield about the issue and said that the lawsuit against Lance Armstrong being suedArmstrong would very soon be filed. The company would through this lawsuit try to recover the $12 million it paid in total, to Armstrong. This amount does not include the legal fees and the other costs that the company would incur due to this lawsuit. In other words when the legal fees and other costs are added the total goes up to $15 million.

The amount does seem to be quite a substantial one, but surely wouldn’t be much for someone like Armstrong, who has earned millions over the years in the form of winnings, endorsements and also from various other avenues.  Tillotson on his part revealed that the decision to sue came after Armstrong ignored SCA’s demand that he pay the money back. “We’ve made our demand for the return of the money we gave him. Mr. Armstrong and his legal team have not complied with that demand, and have publicly said he’s not going to return with prize money. So we’re left with little choice but to institute legal proceedings, which my client plans to do” Tillotson was quoted as saying. If Tillotson’s claims are to be believed, it seems like Armstrong doesn’t intend to give back his tainted winnings after all.
