Jerry Lawler Suffers Heart Attack On Tv

Submitted by on September 12, 2012 – 11:00 am Comments

Jerry Lawler has always been known to create drama and be dramatic. He as wrestler on WWE was known for his shenanigans, and made sure he continued the tradition when he made a shift from being a wrestler to a commentator. Therefore recently, when Monday Night RAW was being telecast live in Montreal, and Jerry slumped over at his ringside table, people for a moment must have thought it was a part of the drama. Everyone though realized soon enough that, his heart had stopped beating, and immediately an emergency medical team responded and began CPR before moving him backstage on a stretcher.

He was later taken to a nearby hospital, where he remains in serious condition. Jerry has had a really long career in wrestling and has dedicated a better part of his life to it. In fact, he had just 45 minutes before the incident, wrestled and then later gotten busy in doing some commentary. He was announcing the tag-team match between Kane and Daniel Bryan versus the Prime Time Players, when the unfortunate incident occurred.

The WWE said in a statement early Tuesday: “Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler suffered a heart attack while commentating during last night’s broadcast of Monday Night Raw in Montreal. We are hopeful Jerry makes a full recovery and returns to WWE in the near future. Our thoughts are with Jerry and his family”. Jerry in his long career has the record of holding more WWE titles, than any other wrestler of the present era.

He is also famously remembered for his made up feud with Andy Kaufman, where he had met Kaufman in the ring in 1982, after he slapped Kaufman on camera during the Late Night With David Letterman. The incident had created quite a sensation, but it was later revealed that the whole thing was actually an act and was orchestrated as a publicity stunt in order to promote their wrestling match. Lawler also appeared as himself in the movie Man on the Moon, a biopic on Kaufman. In the movie the whole incident was reenacted, with Jim Carrey essaying the role of Kaufman. In reality, Kaufman and Jerry were really good friends. Here’s hoping Jerry Lawler manages to wrestle his way back to health once again.
