It was revealed in June by Google that, its CEO Larry Page had lost his voice due to an ailment and therefore wouldn’t be able to speak for a while. The details of the ailment wasn’t revealed, which then led to intense speculation and also drew a lot of criticism, especially since Page is the CEO of one the major IT companies in the world. Then recently, at an annual event hosted by Google for its business partners in Paradise Valley, Arizona, Page addressed several hundred people in a raspy voice.

He reportedly spoke for more than half an hour, which might have come as a great relief to the shareholders of Google, who probably all this while, were wondering as to what really is ailing Page. Corporate governance experts who were the first to criticize this shroud of secrecy though, would probably still want to know the truth. Page on his part was quoted as saying he is “still a little hoarse, but I’m here and I’m happy about that.” Page’s absence from public view for all these months had given rise to all sorts of speculation about his health; therefore he had to make a public appearance although his voice is still strained.

One would probably argue that, a health issue is usually someone’s private affair, but after what happened with Steve Jobs, everybody is wary and the worst is assumed. In addition, the morale of the shareholders and in turn the performance of the shares is affected when the face of the company in other words the CEO’s, health comes into question. Larry’s presence at the recent conference and his smiling face and even his raspy voice, would have to quite an extent, allayed the apprehensions of shareholders and fans alike.

But, the questions that would probably still be lingering at the back of everybody’s mind is, whether the ailment afflicting Larry is something serious? and also, whether he has completely recovered? In July Google’s executive chairman, Eric Schmidt had said, Page was back in the office working and taking meetings; which would suggest everything with Page is fine, except his voice.
