George Michael Cancels Tour To Seek Treatment For Anxiety

Submitted by on October 1, 2012 – 10:00 am Comments

George Michael recently apologized to his Australian fans for cancelling a tour that was to happen in Perth on Nov 10th. He expressed his grief at the fact that, he shall not be able to keep his commitment. He basically shall undergo treatment for anxiety, which is a result of his brush with a bout of life-threatening pneumonia last year.

The Grammy winner also admitted that he “seriously underestimated” his recovery and that he was “wrong to think I could work my way through the major anxiety that has plagued me”. “I have tried in vain to work my way through the trauma that the doctors who saved my life warned me I would experience,” he revealed. “I’m afraid I believed (wrongly) that making music and getting out there to perform for the audiences that bring me such joy would be therapy enough in itself” he further added.

The news would surely come as a huge disappointment to Aussie fans, who were looking forward to the concert. But they too would possibly want that George attend to his health first and get better, before he begins performing again. His British fans though have a reason to rejoice, as he would complete the U.K. concert dates of his Symphonica Tour this October before going on hiatus. For those who are unaware, the ‘Faith’ crooner was hospitalized last year in November, after being diagnosed with a serious case of pneumonia, while in Vienna. He as a result, had to cancel several European tours.

Recently, when he performed at the London Olympics, it was assumed that, he has bounced back as far as his health is concerned, but this recent revelation proves he has yet to travel some more distance, on the road to recovery.  It would be interesting to see how long a hiatus George takes, before he is deemed fit to perform in public once again. His fans world over must also be hoping, once he makes a comeback after this hiatus of his that, he does not have to go on a health related vacation once again, for a long long time.
