Britney Spears’ Team Is Furious Over Glee Episode

"Glee" Britney 2.0Britney Spears is pretty pissed at last week’s “Glee” episode, titled “Britney 2.0″, and it seems she has every right to be. For those who missed it, Spears’ 2007 meltdown was parodied in the show’s episode last Thursday night.  And now according to Spears, Ryan Murphy and the “Glee” team aren’t much better than the bullies they try so hard to rally against.

The “X Factor” judge and her manager, Larry Rudolph, are thoroughly upset at how the show depicted Britney’s breakdown. In fact, Britney’s team was not aware that any of the meltdown would even be mentioned, let alone parodied! In the episode, Heather Morris’ character, Brittany S. Pierce is constantly stuffing her face with Cheetos, which have been known to be a weakness for Spears. She’s also nearly shaves her head, attacks photographers with an umbrella, and gives a very bad lip synced performance of ‘Gimme More.’ It is no wonder that Rudolph is livid.

It’s also a bit surprising that “Glee” never released any photos of Morris from the episode, even though the show revolved around her breakdown. The cover of ‘Gimme More’ is also missing from the “Glee” Youtube page, though all the other performances from the episode are on there. It seems a bit like the show was trying to keep others in the dark about the Spears’ meltdown plot.

In 2010, “Glee” had a Britney tribute during one of their episodes that was quite flattering to the pop queen, and Spears’ herself even had a small cameo in the show. One has to wonder why the writers turned from paying homage to such a great artist, to bringing up a past drama and poking fun at a hard time in someone’s life.Britney Spears Glee Cameo

So was this parody all in the name of fun, or was it a bit mean spirited? Also, can the writers at “Glee” not find anything more contemporary to write about? After all, it’s been 5 years since the meltdown, and Spears seems to have gotten her life and career back in order. It seems a bit harsh to come throwing the past back into her face, and to not even give her a heads up before you air the show?

Considering the fact that “Glee” and “X Factor” share a network, I wonder if there will be conflict with executives over the issue. Some say that “Glee” was essentially talking smack about one of the stars of the competition show that directly precedes it on Thursday nights.

Regardless, Britney and her team were completely blindsided by the episode and they’re not very happy about it. I guess we will have to wait and see what repercussions, if any, the “Glee” team will have to face for their poor choice in parodies.
