It has recently been revealed that the legendary Barbara Streisand shall be performing at the Oscars this year. Her fans would no doubt be excited as they will get to see her perform at such an important event. Besides, it’s an honor to be invited to perform at the Academy Awards. Interestingly, Streisand despite being such a great artist and also despite having won two Oscars in her lifetime has only performed at the awards once earlier.

Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron expressed their excitement at Streisand agreeing to be a part of the show and were quoted as saying “In an evening that celebrates the artistry of movies and music, how could the telecast be complete without Barbra Streisand? We are honored that she has agreed to do a very special performance on this year’s Oscars, her first time singing on the show in 36 years”. Yes undoubtedly it is an exciting proposition to see her performing at the awards that too after so very long.

 For those of you who are unaware or ignorant as to why Streisand is considered to be one of the greatest entertainers and artists of the century, her two Academy Awards, eight Grammy Awards, five Emmy Awards including one Daytime Emmy, should be testimony enough. In fact, she is one of the very few entertainers who, has won an Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Award. In addition, she is one of the most commercially and critically successful entertainers in modern entertainment history, with more than 71.5 million albums sold in the United States and 140 million albums sold worldwide. Hence, it’s no surprise that even at the age of 70 she is held in high regard both by the older generation and the new.

Also, along with Frank Sinatra, Cher and Shirley Jones, she shares the distinction of being awarded an acting Oscar and also recording a number-one single on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. She despite her advancing age has kept herself busy and was recently see in the film ‘The Guilt Trip’, acting alongside Seth Rogen. She was also an executive producer on the film. In 2012, her North American concert tour ‘Barbara Life’ managed to earn a cool $40 million and sold 154,287 tickets. So as you can see there is no stopping this girl. Here’s hoping Barbara Streisand keeps entertaining us for years to come and that we get to see her perform at least in a few more Academy Award shows in the future.
