Ariel Winter Emotionally Abused By Mom – Discovers Child Services

Submitted by on November 21, 2012 – 10:33 am Comments

The courts recently ruled that, Ariel Winter shall remain in the care of her elder sister Shanelle Gray, for now. A Department of Children and Family Services report to the court found evidence of emotional abuse by Ariel’s mother, Chrisoula Workman, but the report also added that, Ariel’s allegations of physical abuse were “unsubstantiated”. In fact the report has recommended that Shanelle be handed over Ariel’s custody, permanently.

A date in court has been fixed in order to deal with this recommendation. Anita Gumm, an attorney for Chrisoula, had argued that Gray, 34, was an unfit guardian because she’s “too young” and “has her own family to deal with,” and even raised speculation that Gray and her husband were only interested in caring for Ariel for their own personal gain. The allegation is really serious and even if it remains unsubstantiated, it is something that could cross anyone’s mind, given that Ariel does make a good deal of money.

Probably, that is the very reason why the court is taking its own time in dealing with this issue. The court probably wants to hear both the sides and deliberate thoroughly before it decides on the issue of permanent guardianship. Gumm on her part appealed to the court “We implore the court to send the kid to her dad. Being a controlling mother doesn’t mean [my client] is unfit”. But Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Levanas stated that Gray had said “eloquent things” at a prior hearing about the family needing to heal. “I don’t think she has ulterior motives,” he said.

Earlier in the hearing, an attorney for Ariel’s father, Glenn Workman, suggested that the father could move into the family home and have Ariel’s mother move out. But the judge ruled against it: “I have questions about the nature and strength of the relationship with her father,” Levanas said. Basically, Ariel’s parents have been separated for some time, and her father since then has been living separately someplace else.  Therefore, the judge was probably apprehensive and didn’t think handing Ariel over to her father would be the most prudent thing to do. When asked about the whole issue, Chrisoula was quoted as saying, “I love my daughter and I just want our family to be back together”.
