Adele Takes a Stand For Modesty And Weight Issues

Submitted by on September 26, 2012 – 2:13 pm Comments

AdeleLady Gaga has been fighting hard against the rumors that she’s gaining weight and has been posting photos of herself in nothing but a bra and panties. We all know that sex sells, but Adele is now stepping up and speaking out about the fact that it’s not cool. The 24 year old singer stated that other performers who take off their clothes and simulate sexy romps are sending bad images to their fans.

Adele stated that she’s seen them up close and that the other performers do not actually look like that. “Exploiting yourself sexually is not a good look. I don’t find it encouraging.” And who would? While there are some who are doing what it takes to sell their albums and shows, others are taking a stand against the sick reality of where we are as a society.

Adele herself has been the butt of jokes regarding her own weight, as Gaga has, but she says that even if she lost the weight, she still would not go around in skimpy clothing. I am grateful for a role model for my daughters who is speaking out for modesty.

Adele said that her job is to stand there and sing. “I’m not worried that I’m a ‘plus size’ and so much bigger than other artists. No matter what you look like the key is to be happy with yourself.” And in today’s society where we are bombarded constantly with images of what we should look like, what size we should be, how we should dress and act, it is a rare thing indeed to have someone say that the key is simply to be happy with oneself.

The fact that Adele is a plus size artist in an industry where size matters means that her size and weight are often the topic of conversation. This is not the first time Adele has spoke out, but the singer doesn’t seem to let all of the scrutiny bother her too much. And as I said before, this is the example we need for our daughters.Lady Gaga

“I’ve seen people where it rules their lives, who want to be thinner or have bigger boobs, and how it wears them down. I don’t want that in my life. I have insecurities, of course, but I don’t hang out with anyone who points them out to me.” And that is a great thing to keep in mind. Who we hang out with and spend our time with greatly affects how we act and what we think and say. Surrounding ourselves with those who uplift us and love us for who we are is a great way to combat the competitive nature of our society.

Adele’s comments come only a day after Gaga posted images of herself in just her underwear after remarks and photoshopped images about the singer’s weight. There has also been a ton of scrutiny in the media regarding her weight. All the scrutiny has helped Gaga to open up a bit more about her own struggles with her body and eating disorders. And isn’t it sad that in this world, someone could treat a person who has struggled with such issues in this way.
